Deck Poles are really nice to bring Wild Birds up close and personal and also they can extend off of the deck to help keep the deck clean.
The difficulty with Squirrel Proofing Deck Poles is two fold. Firstly, a typical cylinder baffle requires its mounting clamp to be put on first and then the baffle to be slipped down onto it, from a poles open end, which usually can not be done on a deck pole. Secondly, knowing that a squirrel can jump over 4 feet upwards and leap 8 ft sideways, they can do so from the deck railing to the top of the baffle to get to the feeder, rather climb the pole. Most of our ground Pole Baffles block squirrels from climbing up the pole from the ground and not allow the squirrels to circumvent and get around the poles baffle.
So, unlike ground poles, Deck Bird Feeder Poles are difficult to make squirrel and racoon proof due to their size limitations and location. Since standard Pole baffles do not have enough room to work on the deck poles to block squirrels and raccoons, we have to rely on our Bird Feeders to defend themselves or at least be resistant.
